Over the last couple of years I have reduced the number of beehives I keep and generally only have enough honey for my own family's use, and to give away to friends and family. On a good year you may find some of my excess honey for sale at The Borough Cafe in Downton.

Honey bees on the honeycomb

The honey comb can be considered as an 'organ' of the honey bee colony. Queen honey bees can lay more than 2000 eggs a day in the cells of the honey comb. The colony stores honey and pollen in an arc above this 'brood' and much of bee biology is focussed on regulating the temperature of the brood.'
